This is NOT your typical yoga class! You will not be asked to bend into a pretzel nor stand on your head. Now that we got that out the way let's get to what Kundalini Yoga is. First and foremost it can be practiced by all young and old and in any level of physical fitness. Kundalini is primal energy that is located at the base of your spine. Once "awakened," this energy travels up your spine, through your chakras, exists your crown and allows the practitioner to merge with their infinite self. Some practices refer to this awakening as a necessary for reaching spiritual enlightenment. KY originated as a secret technology passed from royalty to the Sikh gurus in ancient times. It was first introduced to the west in 1969 by Yogi Bhajan. Yoga means union; the union of breath and movement as well as the union between the finite and infinte.
Kundalini Yoga (KY) is also referred to as the yoga of awareness. KY lets you dive in deep and gain awareness of the power and the divinity that resides within each one of us. The energy blockages that distort our nervous system and mind just pop off like old debri that is no longer needed nor serving our highest potential. KY lets you step into your true divine nature of who you really are. This allows the practitioner to experience higher states of consciousness, compassion towards self/others and move through life with personal intuition and grace. It is also deeply relaxing as well as you have an opportunity go to your edge; it is a lovely balance between to two.
What to Expect:
In each class there will be use of asana’s (postures) during specified kriya’s (sets) to work on moving the kundalini (energy) from the base of the spine, at the lower chakras, up the shushmana (spine) into the higher chakras & aura, thus allowing the individual to experience a unique, sacred connection to their higher self. Mantras are repeated to stimulate the 5th chakra and music is often used to enhance the mantras and kriyas. There is also a meditation and savasana (laying down relaxation) along with the closing song Long Time Sun.
Keoli is a certified KRI Kundalini Yoga teacher. Her classes can be both energetic and deeply meditative. “I like to send my students away with an experience of expansion on all levels; more confidence, self love, determination, and awareness of their highest self.”
Shannon has a Masters Degree In Counseling & Spiritual Counseling. She has trained in many energetic modalities and brings this knowledge base along with her intuitive awareness to hold energetic space for this class.
